Turtle Watching Tours

Turtle Watching Tours consist of visiting active turtle nesting beaches in your area to witness the critically endangered leatherback while she is on land to lay eggs. Nesting occurs at night and the season usually runs from mid-March to July. Your guide should be familiar with leatherback history, folklore and biology. He/she will be able to explain the threats to the species and answer any other questions that you may have.

SOS Tobago has worked closely with the Department of Tourism and the Tobago Tour Guide Association to make sure that your “turtle tour” is both enjoyable and non-intrusive. The Turtle Watching Guidelines included in your in-room information pack will give you a better idea of the expected procedure. Kindly follow your guide’s instructions when viewing this magnificent creature and help us to preserve her species for future generations.

The following is a selection of the THA certified tour guides who have also completed the SOS “Turtle Watch” training workshop and are actively involved in Turtle Watching Tours. By mentioning that you found them through SOS Tobago, it will ensure that a percentage of your tour fee goes back to our conservation activities. Please contact SOS directly to find out about overnight camping packages on Tobago’s beautiful rural beaches.
